Mission Statement… And Explanation…

Who is V.D. Spuy? How did all this get started? What exactly do they want?

Well, allow me to tell you. In answer to your first question, V.D. Spuy is and will remain, for the time being, as obscured an individual as possible. This is not due to any particular personal reason but to V.D. Spuy’s other profession within the healthcare industry, in a direct patient-facing role within a specialist setting. However, those who genuinely know and need to know V.D. Spuy already do.

How did all this get started?!? Writing has been an extreme passion since V.D. Spuy’s earliest memory, but for now, it will remain that way, as equal passion is their clinical role. That is not to say that V.D. Spuy’s work is of lesser quality; quite the opposite, all of V.D. Spuy’s projects are labours of love, from the initial drafts to the final edits and prints; indeed, V.D. Spuy invests their own capital, funded by working many extra shifts, to ensure that their projects final form is as polished and consumer-friendly as possible. It is of personal significance to note that while V.D. Spuy welcomes feedback in all forms, critical or otherwise, ultimately, they write for their pleasure and will continue to do so, regardless of the inevitable nay-sayers.

What does V.D. Spuy want? To answer this, allow me to outline their mission statement: Every project will be fairly priced and effectively polished. The goal is never to milk the proverbial tit dry but rather to share their projects with those who may gain as much enjoyment from reading them as V.D. Spuy gained from the whole creative process. Whatever margin is achieved will be utilised to fund more projects of equal or more excellent quality to continue to deliver to YOU! Polished, entertaining stories.

A final question: What is V.D. Spuy’s writing style?

V.D. Spuy favours high-concept narratives that leave lasting impressions on their readers. V.D. Spuy weaves undertones of satirical humour (honed amongst the gallows humour of the clinical community) amongst dark, gritty narratives across multiple genres. V.D. Spuy doesn’t find much appealing in stories that are too ‘shiny’ or clean, preferring to keep his arcs drilled into the earth… Ideally, in a shadowy corner.

Of course, V.D. Spuy has been greatly influenced by Authors such as Malka Older, George Orwell and William Gibson in the realms of science fiction, but also by Horror authors such as Stephen King (His book Revival comes highly recommended and is undervalued amongst his collection, trust us, the ending truly pays off) and also John Ajvide Lindqvist (Let the Right One In is a personal favourite and has been re-ready many times). More recently, Thomas Olde Heuvelt, Catriona Ward, and Joe Abercrombie (a truly unusual occurrence as fantasy is not as favoured amongst) have all found prized places on V.D. Spuy’s bookshelf, which is already nearly overflowing.
